This position schedules all procedures into the operating room and procedure
suites at the main hospital and WST for the Orthopaedic Surgeons assigned to
them by the Practice Manager of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Work closely with Division of Orthopaedic Surgery
physicians to communicates any and all information to the six (6) Orthopaedic
Surgeons that relates to the patient, procedure or care.

Manage and maintain the surgical schedule, ensuring that
efficient use is made of the Division's surgical block time.
*
Communicate with the patient's legal guardian(s) to
retrieve pertinent medical information crucial to the physician, operating
room and anesthesiology. This information is usually retrieved via the
telephone, in person or in an interview setting.

Provide answers to legal guardian questions and/or
concerns or provides the guardian access to the personnel that will have the
answers to their questions/concerns.

Manage and coordinate obtaining DCFS consents,
pre-certification of professional services to secure coverage and payment;
manage medical information as it is received to have available to the
Physician, operating room, pediatrician, ancillary medical practices and
guardian and to effectively display the urgency for prompt attention to detail
prior to any child's procedure.

Coordinate all professional fee surgical billing for each
case and for all orthopaedic surgeons. Work closely with the Children's
Surgical Foundation and our professional fee billing agency for optimal
professional fee billing.

Coordinate procedures, changes in schedules, late
surgical add-ons and/or cancellations. Monitor ESI reports to look for any
discrepancies within the physician's planned schedule.
FTE status: FT-80
Requirements
*
High School diploma or equivalent, with good knowledge
of written and verbal English. Working knowledge of medical terminology
required.
*
Two year's experience in a procedure scheduler, or
similar medical office experience preferred. Ability to operate a personal
computer and standard office equipment (photocopy machine, fax machine, laser
printer, etc.).

Ability to effectively communicate with any and all
hospital/department staff (internally) and patients, parents, external
professionals and/or officials. Ability to effectively prioritize multiple
tasks and work in a productive and collegial fashion with physicians, nurses,
and other personnel. Ability to work with interruptions and as part of a team
important.
